IP Internet Video Server

Something I have noticed when researching IP cameras, is that there aren’t any covert surveillance IP cameras, i.e. network-enabled cameras of the pinhole or covert type. All of the dedicated IP cameras that I have seen have been rather large and bulky. However, if you require a covert camera installation, but you want to monitor covert cameras remotely over a network (as in over the internet, or from a different building, etc), then the IP 9100A Plus Internet Video Server might be what you need.
This smart little device allows you to plug in 4 video sources (so, potentially up to 4 pinhole spy cameras that have been disguised or hidden), and then access them over the internet via ethernet (wired network cable). Just like the IP cameras, it is capable of emailing them or FTPing them to a remote server when motion is detected! Oh, and as a nice little bonus, this IP video server also supports 1 channel of audio capture! Just in case you need some audio surveillance too!
The bonus with this little box of tricks, is that you can use your own cameras, which would tend to be specific to your particular type of operation or setup. The images are captured at a very respectable resolution of 640×480 pixels too, plenty for most applications. Sure, you can get cameras and video capture cards that take snapshots at a higher resolution, but for general purpose surveillance and the use of covert cameras, this device is ideal.
And guess what? It costs less than £100! A bargain, and jam-packed full of features!

I have one of these cameras and to be honeset it’s quite a poor product. The hardware is technically okay, you can monitor up to 4 cameras in round-robin mode (at about 2 frames per second on each camera) or 1 camera on it’s own (at about 20 frames per second). The software however is very poor. In round-robin mode where you can see all 4 cameras at once only IE is supported using a rather clumsy active-x control. Firefox or other browsers work okay if you have it set on 1 camera only.
There are reports that it crashes rather a lot also, I have mine plugged through a power switch timer so it restarts every day.
