UK Mains Adaptor Transmitter

Audio bugs have been available for a number of years, and as they get smaller due to advances in electronics, the more likely it is that they are covertly hidden in an everyday object. Transmitters that disguised in a 2-way mains adaptors are quite easy to find these days.

The bug is powered by the mains socket (provided it is switched on), and so this means you do not need to replace any batteries in the unit. The absence of batteries makes it ideal for slightly longer-term surveillance projects.

A VHF version of a mains transmitter housed in a 2-way adaptor typically costs £50, whereas a UHF or Narrowband version might cost in the region of £200 to £300, depending on what’s available in the market, and how much a supplier is over-charging!

If you can test one of these units before purchase, I recommend it! Cheap versions of mains transmitters are prone to 50Hz mains interference (i.e. mains hum), which can make the received audio difficult to hear.
