British Secret Service Officers give Interviews

Anyone familiar with the intelligence services, particularly those in the UK, will realise that this is a big deal. Two serving MI6 officers have given telephone-type interviews with the BBC highlighting some of the myths and truths surrounding the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), typically known as MI6.

MI6 didn’t officially exist until about 12 years ago, and had been shrouded in secrecy until then. Earlier this year, MI6 opened up their recruitment programme publically to encourage a wider range of individuals to apply to work for their country. Something that has never been done by the service.

With the release of the new Bond Film Casino Royale, MI6 have done well with their timing of the interview, but not so well with their application process. The application dates are currently closed for roles they are hiring for. However, this is probably a good thing, as they would have been inundated with applications. Just as I am sure that MI5 have been following the recent airing of Spooks Season 5.
