Deleted SMS Text Message Reader

The Deleted SMS Text Message Reader is a device with some Microsoft Windows-based software that will read SMS messages that have been deleted from a mobile phone sim card. The device will show the sending telephone number, the actual message and also the time stamp of the message, just as you would expect from a normal message.
The device works due to the way in which text messages are deleted. When a message is deleted, it is not actually removed from the sim card, it is flagged as being deleted. This allows the phone to write a new text message into the same space when it needs to.
The deleted SMS reader gadget has limited use, since sim cards typically store up to 20 text messages. So if the owner of the phone receives more than 20 text messages, any more will be stored on the telephone. This device does not recover text messages deleted from the phone. A work-around to this is to delete all of the messages in the inbox of the phone, so that any new messages that the phone’s owner might receive are stored (and then deleted if dodgy) on the sim card. You can then recover deleted messages from the sim card.
A little pricey at £129, but still an interesting piece of kit.

will it be able to read text messages from a phone that is very far away?

No it will not. You need physical access to the phone to remove the sim card.

Does the reader have to be plugged into the PC usb port to read the sim card, or can it be read remotely from a PC?

No, it definitely needs to be plugged into the PC.
Thanks
