Going Stealth with Night Vision
Night vision devices are becoming very affordable these days (i.e. less than £200 or $400), so it’s becoming increasingly tempting to purchase one of these gadgets for a bit of fun.
Night vision devices such as the Bushnell Night Vision Monocular use image enhancement and infra-red illuminators to help you see in very low light conditions. In addition to the obvious surveillance related possibilities, its useful for other outdoor nightime pursuits such as wildlife observation, camping and caving.
What should be an important consideration is how the device is powered. In the case of the Bushnell Night Vision Monocular device, it uses 2xAA batteries. AA batteries are common, cheap and easy to obtain.
The Night Owl Nexgen 2X Night Vision device is a little different, using the considerably less pervasive CR123 battery. I would be cautious about the latter model, as it would be expensive to replace the batteries compared to the AA battery version.
Either way, I might just get hold of one for a play. ![]()
