Digital Video Recorder (DVR) with Motion Detection
Not so long ago, I blogged about a portable wireless camera received with a built-in DVR. This is a great wireless camera, received and DVR combination. Now I’m going to talk about an inexpensive DVR solution for wired cameras!
This really small DVR with Motion Detection, despite the colour, is a nifty little device that will record video from a wired camera (or even wireless camera if you hook up the receiver to it). This device will record any detected motion to an SD memory card as either stills or as 10 second motion video clips. The built-in software can also date and timestamp snapshots for that extra bit of usefulness.
Since the snapshots are stored on a memory card (up to 2GB cards are supported), you can then just remove the card and slot it into your PC’s card reader to transfer the contents. This is a fantastic and practical way to use this device in the field, as you just replace the card for more storage. It’s powered by 5V DC, so can easily be built into a portable covert surveillance camera unit for any investigation operations.
It does appear that low cost digital storage solutions for video surveillance are starting to hit the public domain. I look forward to other devices as they creep into the market!
