Security Beam Barrier Alarm

You see break beam detectors in the movies all the time. In most cases, the beam is some colourful laser that triggers an alarm which is swiftly followed by several heavily armed guards. However, in the real world, a visible laser beam very quickly informs an intruder where they should avoid going… which is a good thing… unless you want intruders to actually trigger alarms!

Anyway, if you fancy your own laser beam alarm system without breaking the bank, have a look at the Security Beam Barrier Alarm from Maplin. It will emit a chime when the infrared beam is broken, alerting you to someone’s presence. Great for a shopkeeper! The range of the device is 20 metres, which is really good for a break beam detector!

Both the transmitter and receiver parts run from batteries or a mains adapter, so you could even use them in the field if needed, despite not being waterproof! For £15, its all good fun!

Is such a system available in the United States? (Or as my Brit friend at the club would say, “in the colonies?” :) ) I have a security problem and wish to pass a beam from one edge of my two-car carport (an open garage) to the other and throw a switch for a signal inside my home. Thanks in advance for your help. Blessings, Fred

    Hi Fred,

I had a quick look on Google, but kept coming up with Maplin. Maplin will ship to the United States, but I have no idea of cost.

If you search on Google for “barrier beam alarm” (without quotes) and similar sorts of words, you’ll pick out a few suppliers in the US. I did see a couple with just a quick glance.

    I hope that helps!
