Button Camera with MPEG4 Video Recorder
Quite a while ago, I talked about a camera hidden in a screw, and this is a standard pinhole camera with a different lens on the front. Screw or button cameras that output a standard composite output to a phono socket have been around for quite a while now. Now the focus is on digital recording, and this is where this gadget comes into the scene.
The Button Camera with MPEG4 Video Recorder is a step towards the digital age, which basically connects a covert camera with a low-cost digital video recorder. The video recorder actually powers the camera, so you don’t need a separate battery pack.
The video recorder has built-in memory, a USB 2.0 socket, and a SD/MMC flash card socket for using your own removable storage. I imagine the device will support up to 2GB, which is very common with these digital video recorder devices. The video recorder is only 90mm x 60mm x 17.5mm, which is very concealable. The camera and recorder is probably suited for body-worn applications given its small size. I was quite surprised at the price, as £209 ($400) is really cheap for this kind of kit. I can imagine that most London Spy Shops will charge in excess of £1000 for exactly the same piece of kit!
