Infrared Scene Image

If you’re interested in photography generally, this great article will interest you. The article is about taking infrared photos with your digital camera. Now you may be thinking that this is an odd thing to be talking about on a spy blog…

A little while ago, a scandal hit the news due to the Sony NightShot camcorder would allow individuals to see through clothing! The principle was based on using a filter that filtered out normal visible light, but let in infrared light. Due to the wavelength of infrared light compared with visible light, it can penetrate clothing deeper than visible light. So the phenomena of infrared penetrating clothing, reflecting from the body, and being recorded on the camcorder allowed individuals to see through clothing!

Now I am not encouraging the illegal use of such a technique, but it does have its uses for concealed weapons, interesting photography, etc. In terms of the ‘x-ray’ vision, I’ve tried the technique and its not very clear in reality. But it is an interesting experiment nonetheless. It can be achieved using bright sunlight, exposed camera film, and a cheap CCD surveillance camera. Just follow the instructions in the article.

The title is a bit of a misnomer, since x-rays are not used at all. However, the concept might interest you!
