Police Pilot Pilot-less Spy Drone Helicopters
Merseyside police (UK) have started trails of flying cctv surveillance equipment that weighs less than 1 kg and can record images from a height of over 500 metres. The drones are guided by GPS navigation systems or remote control, can be fitted with night vision cameras, but are completely silent!
The cameras are the first of their kind to be used by Police and have been designed to tackle anti-social behaviour and public disorder. In addition to situations such riots and crowd control, the drone will also be used for monitoring traffic congestion. The possibility of using the drones to reduce risk to human life in firearms operations is also being considered. The flying camera drones are designed to compliment the existing technology provided by police helicopters and van cameras.
It wasn’t that long ago that I wrote about the intention of the police to use spy helicopters, and its nice to see them starting trials. If you fancy your own helicopter, you could always buy a RC model helicopter. I still haven’t got around to getting my own one yet!
