Seeing the light - Tactical Night Vision Googles
Have you seen all of those SAS, Navy Seal, Marine, Special Forces, etc films where they have a night-time operation, and therefore they need a pair of night vision goggles? I bet you’ve fancied trying them yourself too? Night vision goggles are not that expensive, costing around $750 for a mid-range specification.
Night Vision goggles are designed to keep your hands free, which is why they come with straps to fit the gadget over your head. There are other cheaper variations of night vision equipment which are based on monoculars (i.e. designed for one eye). Maplin sell a few Night Vision monuculars for less than £200, such as the Night Owl and the Bushnell Night Vision Monocular.
It’s becoming very common for night vision to be paired with surveillance cameras these days, exploiting infra-red LEDs to see in complete darkness. The Super Night Owl can see in full darkness for up to 50 metres. That’s an incredible distance from just LEDs!
