Babi GSM Transmitter

Spektra has released an ultra tiny GSM transmitter that is about the size of 3 to 4 two Euro coins. It’s actual size is only 39mm by 40mm by 9mm! The bug has features such as VOX activation, SMS notifications and selective answering by only pre-defined telephone numbers.

Like many other GSM bugs, it allows you to call the bug from anywhere in the world using the mobile phone networks. The bug then allows you to listen to any conversations around the bug’s microphone. This is definitely the smallest GSM bug that I’ve ever seen!

You can access the datasheet from Spy Review, as the link on their website is broken. The english is rather broken too, but if you concentrate a little, you can work out what the specification of the device is. It appears that Italian is their first language.

I do question the battery life though, as my experience of battery drain on GSM devices to be very high, and hence poor battery life. When a GSM product (so think of a mobile phone) constantly handshakes and connects to local cell masts, it uses some battery power. This is a continual event, and so will drain a battery over time without dealing with any phone calls. However, it is a smaller device and appears to be a specialist GSM unit. So perhaps the battery life is quite good on the Babi GSM Transmitter.
