Solar Powered Colour Wireless Security Camera
If you care about the environment, but you also want to protect your property, then take a look at this solar powered wireless security camera. It has a large solar panel to recharge the internal battery during the day, but also comes with a backup power supply in case the battery runs out of power overnight.
If you live in an area that gets plenty of sun light, then you have yourself a truly wireless system. The camera transmits on 2.4GHz on the standard channels, so you can receive it on any existing 2.4GHz receiver, or use the one provided in the kit. To conserve energy, the transmitter exploits a Passive Infra-red (PIR) motion detector, which will trigger the camera to start transmitting when motion is detected within 6 feet of the camera. The receiver will beep and flash an LED when a signal is being received.
The actual length of time the camera transmits for is adjustable for 10, 20, 30 or 40 seconds. If the PIR sensor is still being triggered, then the camera will still transmit. If the receiver is combined with a trigger sensitive video recording device, you can conserve tape or hard disk space to only record when the receiver is getting a signal from the camera.
The only disadvantage of the device is if you want to record footage continusously, but you would need a CCTV system for that anyway. It’s not too expensive actually, and is about the same price (£90, $180) as other high quality wireless camera products.

The built in PIR motion detector is a great idea to save power. The motion detectors 6 foot range however might make it tough to find a good spot to mount the camera. As you would have to find a spot to install this camera that is: Close to the potential subject, exposed to direct sunlight, and still relatively safe from harm. But still the potential applications are quote promising.
