George Orwell, writer of the political books “1984″ and “Animal Farm” was unsurprisingly monitored my MI5 for “advanced communist views”. But his views actually confused the security service.

Orwell was screened so that he could work at the Allied Forces Headquarters in North Africa post as a correspondent for the Sunday Observer. The Special Branch report about him said he had advanced communist views, but the sergeant who compiled the report was not actually able to describe Orwell’s actual perspectives, essentially an “unorthodox communist”.
