Security lights can often be a good deterrent for opportunist thieves, at the very least it shows that you’ve put some effort into protecting your property. Since we’re constantly reminded that we should be looking after the environment, how about a security light powered by a solar panel?
Maplin offer a solar powered security light, which charges a bank of rechargeable batteries during the day. During the night, the Passive Infra-red (PIR) motion detector will trigger the bright LED lamp to come up for between 5 to 40 seconds. You can also adjust the sensitivity of the PIR to match your requirements.
What I really like about this solar powered light is that the solar panel can be positioned up to 5 metres away from your light to get the best possible sunlight. For example, if your light is on the east wall of your property, you can move the panel to the south wall to capture sunlight as the sun passes through the sky. And for £35 ($70), its pretty good value too.
