Computer Engineers charged with spying

Two computer engineers have been charged with conspiring to steal and sell microchip designs in California. The engineers were stealing computer chip designs from their employer Netlogics Microsystems. They are being charged with economic (commercial) espionage, and only 3 other people have ever been convicted of such a crime in the US.
Each engineer has been charged with two counts of economic espionage, two counts of theft of trade secrets and one count of conspiracy. If convicted, they’ll each face a prison term of 15 years. Curiously, the previous economic espionage cases were also related to computer parts or software in Silicon Valley.
