KeyCarbon - the USB Keyboard Spy

The KeyCarbon (a strange name I know) is a USB keyboard keylogger that can capture keystrokes on any Windows, Mac OS and Linux based PC that uses a USB keyboard. The device has 512K of memory, and records all keystrokes typed on the keyboard to the internal memory. The device can capture passwords, MSN chat logs, emails and everything else typed in by the user. For the low down on the advantages of hardware keyloggers, do check out the Hardware v.s. Software keylogger guide on Spy Review.
The advantage of an external keylogger is that its a quick device to install. USB keyboards are also becoming more popular over the older PS/2 keyboards these days, as USB keyboards can have more funky features compared to PS/2 keyboards. Since a wireless keyboard will still have a device that plugs into the back of a PC, you could also capture keystrokes from wireless keyboards too.
The product information page is a little confusing in the way it describes how the KeyCarbon device installs. In my experience with keyloggers, you type a unique password to access the menu on a hardware keylogger. From this menu you can activate the device, retrieve logs and clear logs. I just find it odd that the device can work on any PC, but still ‘installs itself’ once a password is typed. I think this means you can type the password to activate or deactive the logging, nothing else.

Not so. The device logs all keystrokes by default, from the moment the device is plugged in.

The manufacturers product page (www.keycarbon.com) is a lot clearer in the way it describes how the product works.
