Phone Jammer Devices – Big and Small

Phone jammers remain one of the most desirable spy gadgets next to spy cameras (no statistic, just based on my unproven observations!). Having reviewed a number of phone jammers on Spy Review, I thought I’d feed your hunger with a couple more phone jammers. Both are really portable units, but they differ considerably in capabilities.
Yeah, I know, yet another small phone jammer device. What makes this jammer a little bit special is that it’s roughly the size of a small mobile phone measuring just 60mm x 68mm x 20 mm and weighing only 70g. It can block signals on 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, and 1900MHz, which is most of the commonly used GSM bands in countries around the world. Apart from that, the specifications of the device are fairly standard, but it has a disappointing range of only 5 to 10 metres.
So that’s the small gadget, now here’s something with a little bit more meat! Sadly its concept rather than a gadget that you can buy, but its definitely possible.
The Backpack Jammer is a request for a design for military-grade jamming equipment. The backpack is required to bring down military, militant and civilian communications on virtually all radio frequencies. The device needs run on standard batteries and AC power, but operate for 10 minutes per hour for up to 6 hours. It needs to have a range of 1km (over 0.5 a mile), and selectively or completely block transmissions on any frequency up to 6GHz.
It’s a little more special than what you can whip up with a few spares from Radio Shack, Maplin, RS or any other of your favourite suppliers. But if you can do it, and do it legally (so not being able to test it then), the Navy are interested in hearing from you.
Now where’s my soldering iron…
