Low-cost and legal phone signal blocker

Ok, the title is a little misleading, and that was intentional. This cell phone signal blocker pouch allows you to stop a mobile phone from getting network coverage by placing the phone in a specially designed RF-shielded bag. This means you can stop anyone calling you, since the phone doesn’t have enough signal with the network to allow a call to take place.

I can’t think of many circumstances in which you could use such a device, but use within a school does spring to mine. For example, the teacher could place any mobile phones in the bag that students are trying to use, or those that rang during the class.

The pouch is a passive device, and does not do any transmitting whatsoever. Therefore the device is completely legal. However, the pouch only blocks the signal for a phone placed in the pouch. So useless for any phones being used around you!

It’s a simple idea, using an RF shield to reduce the signal reaching the phone. So potentially whole rooms could be designed that block out radio signals. That would avoid the need for RF jammers too. If someone came up with ready-made panels that can be stuck inside building walls to block phone signals, they’d make a fortune. Cinemas, hospitals and theatres would be very interested!
