Pickpocketing is rife on busy streets and public transport such as the underground; in most cases people are totally oblivious that they have been subjected to theft only to realise long after it has occurred. It’s not just theft, many people also lose their belongings by dropping them.

Some pickpockets are very well-skilled and can even steal from people that have taken good deal of care to safeguard their belongings.

The Ajoka card is an anti-theft card designed to thwart their efforts by emitting a strong sound designed to attract the attention of the owner if and when a person tries to steal something that contains the card.

The card uses photosensitive technology. I am a little confused as to what actually triggers the sound because there is conflicting instructions about the product. On the one hand, they make it sound simple by saying the card will emit a sound if someone tries to steal or when dropped, but on product instruction page, we get an illustration of how the card must be stored in a certain way in order to expose it to the sunlight that triggers the alarm.

There is an option to control the sensor sensitivity by choosing between high and low, this will be determined by how strong the sunlight is.

In theory this card is a good idea, but I am not sure it will be very effective. Maybe the best way to avoid becoming a victim in the first place is to to take care and be aware of your surroundings.

It seems like it would emit the loud beep every time you took your own wallet out of your pocket unless you reached in and switched it off before removing your wallet. It would probably be ideal for a safe or a drawer though; going off as soon as exposed to light.
