I have a real dog - a Dobermann and do not need this, but know the workings of the criminal mind and no I am NOT one. A burglar will not want to mess with a house with any kind of a dog. It is annoying and brings too much attention to that particular house. The laws in Illinois and other states are mostly this: A dog can bark all day long if the dog is in a house. You cannot be ticketed for a dog barking in the house even with the windows open in the summer. You will, however, be ticketed and fined if the dog is outside barking all day long. If you call to complain about a dog barking in the house the police will tell you to stop calling them. So this should not be a problem.

Thanks for that John. I will update the post warning people of the possible consequences of owning this device. Anyone owning this device should measure carefully the distance between the device and the target when it goes off. Ideally they want it positioned so it only barks when someone is approaching the front/back door or window. A device like this can give old-aged people living on their own a lot of confidence.

This is likely to cause a major problem with your neighbours with nuisance barking. Could bring unpleasant letters from Environmental Health Officers for Noise nuisance and a possible fine of up to £5000 if a notice under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 is breached. They can even obtain a warrant to enter the premises and remove the article if it continues to cause problems. I would suggest that you use these products very carefully. I know because I am dealing with one at the moment - it may not be that exact model but the principle will be the same.

Are you sure they have around for this long? If they have, I stand corrected. Anyway, I also meant novel in the sense it was a pretty clever idea, a change from the traditional burglary prevention methods.
