Stolen Computers Being Tracked to Thieves

Here is a story about how stolen computers are being located using tarckers integrated into the bios of the computer motherboard. We know tracking systems have been used for cars to locate their wherabouts after being stolen with huge success, not a lot of people would know the same is being done with Laptops. The difference in the tracking here is probably more to do with the fact that, in this case, the tracker is not a physical product in the sense that its is attached to the computer.
Criminals are going completely unaware they are being tracked. They are able to be tracked down the location by IP when the computers are connected to the Internet.
Since many thieves are involved in much larger criminal activity, by tracking the computers down, in some cases, the police are being led to wider arrey of crimes that these criminals have commited.
Of course, it will not always be the case that criminals themselves are hunted down because sometimes they sell the stolen goods on to innocent people, who aren’t wise to the fact that they are using stolen computers. Read more on the story.
