Underwater Surveillance System

This site has reviewed surveillance systems in the past, but this is the first time it is covering a system that can be used to monitor underwater.
In that regard, it can be used by anyone working in an underwater environment such as diving teams or working as lifeguards on a beach. It can be used for both serious situations such a rescue or underwater sports to marvel at the beautiful species that roam the waters.
For example, the surveillance camera can be used to dive in the water to locate something while someone above water monitors the situation on the monitor that is used to view what is being recorded by the camera.
The monitor also provides the facility to be connected to two cameras. It allows the person monitoring to switch from one to the other at the click of a button, making it ideal for multi-location search.
Unfortunately, the monitor itself displays in black and white thus taking away some of the charms when viewing for recreational purposes.
The quality of the system itself is of very good with a resolution of 420 Lines and has a perfectly acceptable (in fact, more than enough for most) underwater operational depth of 20 metres. Where many surveillance cameras suffer is from restricted viewing, this, on the other hand, has wide angle coverage thus giving a good viewing of the area in the front and sides of the camera.
The camera also comes with nightvision thus enabling viewing underwater in night time, but the viewing is restricted to a distance of 7 metres i.e. the camera can only see 7 meters in front of it in the dark.
Another added advantage with this system is that it can be used to monitor underwater without actually having to even dip the toes in water. This woud require some extra equipment, but can be ideal for anyone with a backyard pond or want to view some of the species that thrive in a pond in a local park.
Maplin also do a colour monitor version that is significantly more expensive than this one.

The basic types of video surveillance equipment are cameras, camcorders (camera-recorders), recorders/players, and video displays (monitors/televisions), which are fitted in some combination to create a complete video surveillance system. Various industries, including banks, stores and restaurants, use video surveillance equipment for safety purposes. Police officers use it for tracking criminal activities and private citizens find it helpful in protecting their property.

We bought one of the underwater cams systems from cameras4sports.co.uk and it works very well, we actually use it for filming swimmers underwater and use the footage as a training / teaching aid to help identify where the swimmers are loosing time with their strokes.
complete kit in a case just plugged in our video camera as the recorder.
good quality camera and monitor and twenty metres of cable.
