Stop Neighbour’s Dog From Barking

It can be extremely annoying having a neighbour that has a dog that keeps barking all the time, sometimes so much so that it can become a severe nuisance and even disrupt sleep unless the owner is willing to do something about it. Whilst many neighbours will take appropriate measures to ensure their dog is not too much of a nusiance, the problem does nevertheless exist.
If it gets really out of hand, some people will take the matter up with their local authorities to have it sorted, but everyone would prefer not having to resort to that. So the idea of an electronic device that stops a dog from barking without anyones knowledge does seem very interesting.
The Bark Stop Super is suppose to aid in controlling the barking of your own dog or even your neighbours dogs. Could an ultrasonic tone that only a dog can hear really stop them from barking? The device will emit an annoying sound that only a dog will hear within 50 feet away. The manufacturers state that once the dog realizes that his own barking makes the annoying sound, they will stop barking.
Features of the Bark Stop Super include high power speaker, audible and Ultrasonic frequency settings, a sensitive microphone that hears the barking dog, and an additional adjustable dog bark setting.
I am not sure this device will hold up to the claims. How many times have you heard all the neighborhood dogs bark when they hear a siren? Dog’s ears are sensitive to sounds and they bark at various sounds they hear throughout the day or night, many sounds we may not be able to hear. Sound technology may be great, but to stop a dog from barking I believe is quite questionable. Also, Another problem is that the manufacturer states the line of sight between the device and a dog needs to be fairly clear or it might interfere with its operational mechanism.
It must also be stressed that some people keep dogs for safety and the idea is for their dog to bark if it suspects an intruder. If the device does work and stops the dog from barking at sounds in the night, how is a dog going to protect a home?

These gadgets do create a dilemma of when you want a dog to bark and when you don’t. this seems to train them to never bark.
