StarChase - Tracking Technology for the Police

You more than likely have watched the evening news, where several police cars and helicopters are chasing down the bad guys. Well, today, with the StarChase this excitement may be a thing of the past.
StarChase is a type of GPS tracker that is shot from a small cannon device either mounted on the police car or held in the hands of an officer. The cannon shoots a sticky golf ball sized tracking device. The cannon called the air launcher will shoot the tracking device, which once it hits the car will stick to the bumper or other part of the car by an efficient gluey compound.
After the GPS device is glued to the car, the GPS will take over and broadcast the location of the car and its route so the police can follow at a safe distance or intercept the bad guys when it is safe to do so.
I personally see all kinds of problems with such a device. For StarChase to work properly it must first be attached to the bad guy’s car. If the device is attached to the police car, the perpetrators could easily swerve their car, which would cause an error in hitting the right car. The GPS tracker could easily hit another car, a pedestrian on the street, or even a building. Now, if you put the StarChase in the hands of police officers, we know how many times they miss their target. Hitting a moving car with a cannon device has to be harder than using a regular gun. If they use the StarWars and hit the car, why not just use a gun and shoot the tires?
Since, no one is really talking about the speed of this golf ball sized tracking device; it makes me wonder what kind of damage it could do. If the tracking device hits a bystander, would it hit hard enough to injury or kill? Before equipping police cars with StarChase, there should be more research done. Having said that, I am pretty sure the manufacturer did take this into consideration as they would not want to be faced with libel if the tracking systems ended up injurying passers by.

I work for StarChase and saw your blog. I think you make some valid points and would like to address a few key concerns.
1. All officers using the StarChase system will be subject to a very detailed training cirriculum to ensure proper use and deployment.
2. The system has been through successful third-party impact testing and was designed from the beginning as a ‘less than lethal” interdiction strategy.
3. The system will be used at the full discretion of the officer, just like any other tool that law enforcement has at its disposal and in any given situation where the officer feels the system would be beneficial.

do you actually bother to research (go to a website, browse, watch a 5 minute video) or do you just recycle other websites?
I learned the following in just 3 minutes
less than lethal compressed air launch system with laser pointer style aiming
de-escalate a potentially dangerous car chase into a remote tracking event thereby reducing the risk of high speed crashes which could result in the loss of innocent lives
and it would appear you never reply to postings on your pathetic blog
