The U.S. Military are currently designing micro aeriel vehicles in the form of tiny flying insects that will be deployed to gather information. These will be designed to go into enemy territory and bug enemy installations and buildings by using various powerful surveillance technologies they will be equipped with. These robot insects will be able to gather information and behave almost like real insects in their behavioural aspects.

These artifical intellegence vehicles will be programmed to avoid flying into buildings through use of powerful sensors, be able to perch on top or side of a building, wire cables, etc.

However, this is not the first of its kind because similar type of vehicles in the form of a bat and also micro planes have been or are currently being developed. However, the researchers envision something a little different with these. Firstly, the size is going to be a lot smaller, not much bigger than a real-life bee, for example. Also, these will have wings which they will use to propel and fly.

A device like this might not necessarily have to be deployed only in situations of conflict, it can be used for any situations where the enemy might be armed and hidden such as hostages holding up in buildings. The flying robot insects will be able to perch on top of buildings while sound, video and other forms of surveillance is picked up and relayed to be analysed by police.

Whatever the cost of building these, if plans come to fruition, no doubt they will add an exciting dimension to intelligence gathering, not that war is good nor fun.

What do you mean “currently designing?” We’ve already got these flying everywhere. See that fly next to you? It’s not a fly….we can see you…….
