UK Police to Develop Tool Which Can Tell a Computer That Was Used to Commit Crime
This is a very interesting development, well, it cannot really be said a development yet, but plans, nonetheless. The UK police are hoping to develop a tool that can be a sure fire way to detect a computer used for illegal activity. This will be akin to a breathalyser, which is obviously is used to test people who have had one drink too many before getting in their car.
No, it won’t be like a magic wand which, when brushed against a computer, comes up with a pass or fail report, it will, in fact, be like a software run on the computer’s machine which will then detect whether any fraudulent activity or illegality was committed on the machine.
The idea is that it will reduce workload for police who do not have to take all the computers from a crime scene and only take the ‘accused’ PC or laptop and cut down on waiting time before police can retrieve data from a seized computer.
However, the plans are not just for individials and relatively small time criminals, the police are trying to also create a central server that links up computers of organisations big and small which can allow police to detect the computer used for corporate crime, from anyhere in the country.
Can we look forward to a time when a police officer sitting in a far off station being able to tell that a computer has been used to sell stolen goods on eBay? It sure sounds rather fanciful at this stage, but if successful, can potentially save companies millions. Read more.
