The GPS Mail Logger is a new tracking system designed for mail. It can be planted inside an envelope or a package and then used to track it by logging on to a computer once the mail has arrived. Its ideal for companies where the efficiency of delivery is crucial to their business. By utilising information from the mail logger, a firm can analyse why post might be taking longer than it should be.

Armed with Google Earth, the tracker can be used to see the exact destinations through which a mail or package has travelled, the stoppages, the length of time those stoppages were for, etc.

Its ideal for testing. If a company is receiving lots of complaints from customers of delays in receiving their packages, then it might make sense to use the mail logger for testing. You can send a test package to a location within the country or to a company location to another part of the world to find out why the delays might be occurring. It can be seen whether a package is sitting idly at a location for too long when it should be moving or misrouted. If findings suggest a pattern to the delays, it can be brought to the attention of the delivery company to resolve the issue.

For this to be an effective way to analyse the delivery system, it will require continuous testing to see if there is a serious pattern to the delays.

The only problem is that if the system is set for continuous minute by minute updates, the battery runs only for 20 hours, which is quite limited if you want to investigate very thoroughly. But the battery can run for many days if it is set to other modes because the intensity on power usage would obviously then be far less.
