Thief Detection Powder to Safeguard Possessions

A thief is always careful not to leave any trace of their being there to avoid any suspicon pointed at them, but luckily for many victims of burglaries or even minor thefts, investigational science has advanced to a degree that makes it very difficult even for the most sophisticated of them to avoid leaving some clues.
However, for minor thefts the police often give up on search and sometimes do not not see it in their best interests to follow up cases (even if they say otherwise) as it may divert attention and resources from more serious cases, so this thief detection powder can come in handy when it comes to protecting valuable items and prized possessions from theft. It works simply by marking those items with the powder which cannot be detected with the naked eye, but only visible under ultraviolet light.
So, if an item has been stolen, it can be posisble to know who the culprit is since they will have some of the dye visible under UV inspection. The only problem I see with this is that its is probably good for securing aganst posisble theft by known people or perhaps if there is a party where people have been invited, but it is much more difficult against an intruder because by the time anyone is apprehended, any dye will have been washed off or gradually disappear.
