Every house or place that needs to be secured should ideally have a burglar alarm, with crime on the rise and uncertainty when anything will happen to you or your loved ones, you don’t want to be taken short. Maplin has a quick fit burglar alarm which is battery operated and requires no wiring. It just takes a few minutes to install.

It emits a siren and a flashing light and works on batteries, so it will work even in the event there is no electricity. The PIR sensor requires separate batteries. It works on a 30 metre range. The system has a low battery indicator which will tell you when you need to replace the batteries.

While this quick fit alarm is reasonably priced and easy to use, it has some negatives, too, which you should be aware of before buying it. It does not have the personal attack facility which can be operated from the key fob, you cannot buy extra remotes (so you have to make sure the one you have is working and does not get lost), it does not have a zero delay entry, the entry operates after 8 seconds and you cannot buy extra PIRs.

Another problem is that the siren is carried to the PIR which means you need to be within a range of 30 metres or else the alarm may go unheard which isn’t the case with the more sophisticated range of burglar alarms because they are usually very loud and can easily be heard from distance away, which in itself is a very stromng deterrent.

You may wish to check out more sophisticated alarms with more functions, especially if you are using this at your house. If money is an issue, then it is better to have a burglar alarm that works at least.

Lot of people do not install burgler alarms because they think the cost is prohibitive or have the belief that they will not be victims to such crimes, well, given the burglary rate in a city like London or any other major city, it can often be a false sense of security that people get into because you just never know if you will become a statistic.

Thanks for the review. My fiancee was wanting to buy one of these alarms but he knows nothing about them so here I am doing the research. I think we need to go with something a little more secure.
