Hopefully, you are not on the radar of any law enforcement agencies or having an affair. If you have any apprehensions that your conversations are being spied upon or recorded by clandestine means, or you have important phone conversations which, if intercepted, can cause you physical or financial harm, you might want to get hold of a tape recorder blocker.

It works on digital and conventional tape recorders or any microphones which may be used in any kind of spying device and looks pretty innocuous to boot. The device works by generating a sound which is inaudible to the human ear but blocks out any recorded sound.

As it comes with a built in clock it can sit pretty on your desk and you can put your phone on top of it. What happens if you are using your mobile phone? Very simple – you can carry it around in its own document holder, again very innocuously.

The tape recorder blocker comes with rechargeable batteries and a remote so it is not like you have to press any buttons. Using the remote, you can activate or deactivate the blocker. Of course it works within the stipulated range, but then it is up to you to carry out your conversations within that range. If you want the protection this device offers you, be prepared to pay a steep price for it as it costs about ￡2,232.50

While it is legal to use this device in the European Union, you should not use it in and around hospitals, aircraft, technical installations, blasting areas, petrol stations, or people with pacemakers or electronic hearing aids as it can cause explosions. The fact that it can be dangerous possibly would raise the question of its legality in some peoples minds.

<img src='http://www.spyreview.co.uk/images/review/Pro-Hunter-Bug-Detector.jpg'alt'Low Cost Pro Hunter Bug Detector" />

If you are are worried about being spied on by a camera and want to reassure yourself you are not subject to any such activity, you may think about buying a bug detector. Bug detectors range in cost depending on the level of complexity, but Maplin offers the rather simple yet popular Pro Hunter detector at 15.99. It was one of the early bug detectors we reviewed on this site and was priced much dearer then, and though it does have its limitations in that it only has a coverage area of 5 metres and detects only wireless, it can be handy in some situations and to carry it around on yourself as its small. That is if you are worried about any irregular activity, of course.

<img src='http://www.spyreview.co.uk/images/review/Spy-Camera-Detector.jpg'alt'Spy Camera Detector" />

If you have reason to believe that somebody may be spying on you for any given reason, you can use this portable spy camera detector which will tell you if this is indeed true. If you learn that your privacy is being infringed upon, then you can take steps to rectify the situation. As it is small and hand-held it is easy to carry around.

Sometimes covert cameras may be innocuous as in CCTVs which you cannot see. At other times they may be deliberate, particularly if you are in any kind of compromising situation on the work or personal front.

At such times, the spy camera detector can come in handy and save you a lot of grief. The spy camera detector works on various megahertz and will work on batteries or an electric adaptor jack. It comes with a 2.3” color display which will reveal the locations of the hidden cameras.

But I don’t really understand the concept of this detector since there are covert detectors available which are much smaller that can be in your pocket and that can identify and detect spy cameras without actually you having to let those around you know by waving out out a sizeable chunk of a device like this one. I suppose the the real benefit is that it can show you the position the cameras are situated on the screen.

<img src='http://www.spyreview.co.uk/images/review/Counter-surveillance-sweep.jpg'alt'Counter-Surveillance Sweep" />

Business organisations take a lot of precaution to ensure security of their premises, in particular this holds very true for any organisation where the safeguarding of data and information is vital to its operations because of high value of intellectual property.

Spycatcheronline has a service that provides an extensive and thorough sweep of any premise carried out by qualified surveillance technicians that includes detecting for any hidden devices such as listening devices, cameras, inspection of wirings, telecommunication systems, etc upon which a detailed report will be provided that can be used a guide to upgrade security, if required.

Of course, carrying out a one-off counter surveillance sweep may not seem very efficient on first thought as threats are ever present, but these sweeps are very comprehensive and designed to report on possible shortcomings interms of current defence the organistaion has in place because there can be leakages even when firms have strong security in place, so it will recommend devices that might be used to increase security of the premise further. Of course these types of comprehensive sweeps can also be carried out at random periodically to ensure consistency.

<img src='http://www.spyreview.co.uk/images/review/gps-and-mobile-phone-jammer.jpg'alt'GPS Mobile Phone Jammer" />

If you are engaged in any activity where you don’t want to be tracked by anyone whether you are a covert operative or an ordinary person who doesn’t want anybody to know where you are at any given time, you should get hold of this short distance mobile jammer.

Nowadays it is extremely easy to track anybody through GPS as the mobile phone you carry sends out signals which connect to receivers of your service provider. These signals are what make it easy to keep tabs on you.

This jammer works up to 10 metres and is very easy to use. However, you must be aware of the fact that when you use the jammer, the person who is tracking you will probably realise that you are using something to cloak your movements and so whatever suspicions he or she has will get reinforced.

You must be aware of the fact as well that many of these devices are illegal to use in many countries and come with a caveat telling you that. So check the laws in your country before ordering one of these.

This should really be used to stop tracking and not for the purpose of blocking someone’s phone sig

<img src='http://www.spyreview.co.uk/images/review/wifi-and-spy-finder.jpg'alt'Low Cost WiFi-n-Spy Finder Wireless Camera Detector" />

If you want to get hold of a cheap camera detector you may want to try the WiFi-n-Spy Finder detector as its just under £13 from Maplin. This detector also detects wireless hotspots.

The benefit of this device is that it is a dual-function device and at a very affordable price. You don’t have to log into your laptop to check whether there is wireless connectivity available with its WiFi functions.

The disadvantage with detecting cameras with this device is that it is unlikely to be comparable in signal strength compared to the host of standalone wireless detectors available such as the standalone Spyfinder wireless camera detector, but it must be said they are significantly more expensive than this particular device. It can also only detect wireless devices such as wireless cameras and bluetooth devices and not wired ones.

Another disadvantage the WiFi-n-Spy Finder is that with its WiFi detection capabilities it can only find wireless signals but cannot detect their strength and neither can it tell you whether a network is secure or not thus you will not be able to readily snoop on others’ networks without first testing it it out with your wireless device whether the network requires a password or not.

However, this is a good entry level device offering a dual function capablity, and from that standpoint, makes it quite attractive.

Are you someone who frets about the possibilty of being subject to audio or video surveillance when you are out and about? Well, a good way to make sure you are not under surveillance is to ensure there are no hidden cameras or listening devices in your vicinity. What you need is a detector for such devices.

Most detector bugs are designed for homes and buildings and thus are often quite chunky in build and not ideal to carry around. This is where the pen bug detector comes in handy. It can be used to detect hidden cameras, listening devices, wiretaps that are within a range of 10 feet from the pen. The fact that it looks and works as a standard pen is part of its attraction since it can be used as a detector without giving any hint.

It has limitations, however. Unlike a typical camera bug detector which can be used to swipe a significant area in terms of square metres, this only has coverage of 10 feet. This is fair enough given that is is pretty cheap and designed more for on the go and in theory you should know at all times that no bugs and cameras are within a range of at leat 10 feet, but for more powerful cameras that can record from much further distance, this won’t be quite adequate.

All in all, carrying this pen bug detector can put anyone with a nervous disposition at ease.

<img src='http://www.spyreview.co.uk/images/review/gps-car-jammer.jpg'alt"GPS Car Jammer" />

If you suspect that your vehicle is being tracked by a GPS (global positioning system) device or you just want to make yourself extremely safe then you may wnat to consider a GPS car jammer. If you are security conscious person because of the work you do or for any other reason then the GPS jammer is a small device which will jam the signals emanating from your car.

The other person will not be able to track you or follow you. The GPS jammer will plug into a 12 volt outlet which is in the car normally to plug in a cigarette lighter. While this device may be illegal to use in many countries, it is also usually illegal to track people unless they are suspected of any criminal activity, unless it is done by law enforcement agencies with all the requisite paperwork in place. Since this only works within a range of 3 to 6 metres, enough to cover your vehicle, you should be fairly safe in the knowledge it is not interfering with tracking devices that may be planted on other vehicles, which may be done legitimately, of course.

Again, while this device works on most frequencies, keep in mind that if you are jamming the signals, the person who is tracking you will also become aware that you are suspicious and that is why you have an anti-tracking device in your vehicle in the first place. The jammer comes with 3 to 6 metres coverage. It also has a one year warranty. So, if you are a teen who wants to thwart the parents, you should realise they too will realise that you realise what they are up to.

Those working in business sometimes worry their phone may be bugged because someone wants to hear what they are saying in order to steal information if they are a competitor, for example.

The practice of phone bugging is something the police employ quite regularly, but of course, in their case the bugging is done legitimately as they may wish top keep tabs on someone in a case they are following without their knowledge.

The device, called the RF detection telephone analyser, continously sweeps the phone for any unusual signs it may recieve which could indicate unusual activity on the phoneline such as bugging, which is indicated by an LED light. It works both when the phone is not in use but also when in use so you can tell if anyone is trying to listen into a converstation while speaking, in which case the idea would be to cease talking at once.

The device also looks for other RF signals so could pick up on other bugging activity that uses radio frequency.
